Here lies the whisper of oppression,
Yet the silence is merely an illusion
As it carries with it a deafening noise.
Concrete walls of boundaries fade into transparency
As those jokes pose as daggers to the soul
Since all they have truly been, unfortunately, are slurs.
Not one could understand the pain behind their smiles,
As this ache left them breathless,
Unable to explain.
They fear that their presence
Leaves another troubled,
But how could rare beauty
Ever be a term for disgust?
How could their poetic language
Be forced to be kept hidden, veiled, secreted,
As if diversity is a crime?
They crave to speak their mother-tongue
Before their mouths run dry.
And so why are they believed to be a burden,
When the only wrong they do, is silently endure these microaggressions?
